Memorial Day weekend
May 26th, 2008Ahhh, what a weekend! Camping, relatively simple livin' and conversation. No computers around, not really even talked about. We were busy enough, that I didnt really even miss the outside world for a few days.
I met a lot of new people, (but not ALL new to me), and overall, it was an interesting time.
Memorial Day Weekend
May 31st, 2005I was entertaining Party Animals Guests all weekend, so there was no time for blogging, and barely time to peek out from behind all the beer bottles into the world.
It started on Friday afternoon, with more arriving on Saturday. We cooked Ribs on the grill, and had a shrimp sampler, and was up almost late enough Saturday night to see the sunrise on Sunday morning ![]()
Between the beer, and Jello shots, and laughs, we all had a great time. Lots of evidence pictures taken for posterity.
A few hours sleep on Sunday morning, and by early afternoon, we were at it again
We had steaks that night, and more delights of the fermentation process. We managed to watch 1100 miles of car racing in 10 hours. (Indy 500, and NASCAR Lowes speedway 600)
By Monday morning, people were getting ready to crawl drive home to recover.
Sun-n-fun
April 17th, 2005Our 2nd year at sun-n-fun. In general, pretty much the same as last year. We saw many planes, enjoyed the airshow, and got sunburned! I still enjoy it though, Seeing the Aerobatics is always good for me.
Day Off
April 10th, 2005Today was a day off from Blogging.. and mostly the Computer as well. Kind of a lay around and watch DVDs all day.
First Spiderman II, which I hadn't seen in a while, then onto a new one we just got, "The Incredibles" (no, I'm NOT going to spoil any of it, go watch it yourself) - I really like the CGI and PIXAR Stuff, and if the story is good, thats cool too! I also have Shark Tales, Ants, and a few others.
Friday!
April 1st, 2005Its Friday, its over (as far as work) and I am free again for a time!
Bowling again tonight, and our league will be over in a few more weeks.
What will the weekend bring? Probably more playing on the computer, just like I have been the past few weeks.
Green Beer Day
March 17th, 2005Its funny how psychological it can be when one uses 3 drops of green food coloring in a whole 10 oz glass of beer to color it green. It doesnt change the taste one bit, but the first few times, you'd SWEAR it tasted funny ![]()
After many years of tradition, I know better, and I analyze the taste and the mental feelings. A fun experiment of my psyche once a year.
Vacation
November 23rd, 2004Had a nice few days off and spent in the Tampa / St Pete area. First on the list was the Salvador Dali Museum
I really like the Work of Dali during his peak Surrealism years, but people seem to either love it or hate it.
The next day we hit Busch Gardens, and got a lot of pictures and rides in.
The third day we spent at the Tampa Bay Aquarium
After all that, we rested ![]()
Sun-n-Fun
April 18th, 2004We went to Sun-n-Fun in Lakeland, Florida yesterday. I have always had a love of flying, and being a pilot, and living in Florida the past 3 years, I have always meant to go to Sun-n-Fun.
I finally got my chance. I saw the usual things, talked to some of the UL guys, looked at the planes and jets, and finally settled down for the 3 hour airshow in the afternoon. Having done some aerobatics myself, I could put myself in the plane with these pilots as they shake rattle and roll. No matter what kind of rollercoaster you have ridden, that is a baby coaster compared to aerobatic flight. A rollercoaster might, at most, put 2.5 G forces on you, and the zero G is sub second.
Aerobatics will allow you to put as much G force on you and plane and you can stand (depending on craft). I saw many great moves and some of the best pilots in the world (including Patty Wagstaff) and topped of by some moves by an F-16.
Seeing and hearing that F-16 come screaming across the field almost silent, until the afterburners hit and then climb straight up, rumbling all the way.. Just awesome, no other words fit.. watching the most maneuverable fighter in the world have at it.. just awesome
St Patricks Day
March 17th, 2004Ahh,
St Patricks day, the day I call green beer day (and usually have a few in a clear glass with green food coloring! It is interesting to see how celebrations
and holidays have the original meanings diluted or completely lost over time. In the USA, we have many holidays and traditions, owing to all the people that make up the USA and where they are from.
It seems the less well known a tradition is, the better it holds true to its original meaning. Of course, most of these seem to be the less (widely)
celebrated ones. St Patricks Day holds as true to tradition as Cinco De Mayo, and for similar reasons.
Maybe I am making these connections today, because our office decided to have a "diversity luncheon" where each person brought a dish representing their ethnic background. I was one of the few who didnt go, maybe because I couldnt decide WHICH ancestry to represent.. I kept teasing them all that I could only bring a bottle of Heintz 57 catsup (all Americans feel Hientz 57 within 3 generations).
